Did you know there’s an amazing little theatre tucked away at Peel Green in Eccles?
Behind Patricroft Methodist Church, on the corner of Liverpool Road and Alexandra Road, you’ll find a rather unassuming-looking building proclaiming that it’s the “Theatre Organ Heritage Centre” – a venue set up by the Lancastrian Theatre Organ Trust.
The Heritage Centre opened in 2006 with some help from the Heritage Lottery Fund. It has a weekly concert held every Wednesday at 1pm. It is also open every Friday and on the first Saturday of each month, from 11am – 3pm. Run by a team of very enthusiastic volunteers, the Centre also holds coffee mornings, bring-and-buy sales and don’t forget the annual Heritage Open Day.
Hidden away inside a 1930s style cinema is a delightful 1927 Wurlitzer organ that rises through the floor as in days of old. A different professional organist performs each week, all with their own style and choice of music. Some weeks there are silent films and other entertainment too. There is also a museum devoted to theatre organs.
Come and relive the nostalgia of the cinema’s heyday and delight in some light hearted music and fun. You’ll be pleased you did!
