These cast iron lamp stands were manufactured by the Daniel Owen & Sons Iron Foundry which was situated on Lansdowne Road. These were sent out all over England. Examples of these lamps were once on Mirfield and Highfield Drives. However, they had to be rmoved to make way for newer lighting columns and were rescued by Monton Village Community Association.
Phil Austin, who owns the Lighthouse on the Canal very kindly paid to have them erected on his land at the side of the canal and MVCA bought the new copper lamp housings thus saving a part of Monton heritage.
